Music

Our music curriculum is based on a modelled music curriculum, designed to inspire creativity, confidence and enjoyment.

At St Nicholas Primary School, music brings our community together through:

  • whole-school singing

  • ensemble playing

  • creative exploration

  • listening to and performing alongside others

The joy of making music enriches every child and strengthens the shared sense of belonging within our school. We especially enjoy our weekly singing assemblies every Wednesday, which give children the opportunity to explore different musical genres and discover the styles of music they love.

What Children Learn in Music

🎧 Children are given regular opportunities to:

  • listen to a wide range of musical genres

  • explore and play different instruments

  • perform individually and as part of a group

Our music curriculum follows a clear sequence of learning:

🎼 Listening & Appraising
🎤 Singing
🥁 Playing Instruments
🎹 Improvising
✍️ Composing
🎭 Performing

This progression allows children to develop musical skills gradually while building confidence and enjoyment.

Performance Opportunities

🌟 Children regularly perform what they have been learning during:

  • end-of-half-term celebration assemblies

  • whole-school singing events

  • class and group performances

These opportunities help children to develop confidence, teamwork and pride in their achievements.
