Music at St Nicholas
The Music curriculum:
Our Music curriculum is based from the modelled music curriculum. In our school, music can bring communities together through the shared endeavour of whole-school singing, ensemble playing, experimenting with the creative process and, through the love of listening to friends and fellow pupils, performing. The sheer joy of music making can feed the soul of a school community, enriching each student while strengthening the shared bonds of support and trust which make a great school. We really enjoy our weekly singing assemblies every Wednesday as this gives us the opportunity to allow the children to find a genre of music that they love!
Our children have the opportunity to listen to different genres of music and play different instruments. Please see our attached music long term plan. Our music units follow these steps:
- Listening and Appraising
- Singing
- Playing
- Improvising
- Composition
- Performance
We give children the opportunity to perform what they have been learning during their music lessons during our end of half term celebration assemblies.
